CLIMATE PRISONER ALEX COCKLE TO APPEAR AT WELLINGTON DISTRICT COURT TODAY

At a little after 10am today, Alex will appear in the Wellington District Court to apply for EM (Electronic Monitoring) bail after being held in Rimutaka Prison since the 8th of September.

“To the best of our knowledge Alex is New Zealand’s third climate prisoner, however after being detained for 20 days, we are hopeful he will be released today to await the jury trial which will determine the guilt or innocence of himself and almost 40 other climate protesters. However, for those around the world who are stuck, isolated by floods and landslides, for those thousands who have lost their lives in the catastrophic flooding in Libya recently, there was no escape and no chance at freedom” said spokesperson James Cockle.

“Restore Passenger Rail will continue to sound the alarm to the devastating effects of the climate crisis and demand our leaders take urgent action no matter how the state treats us. Our highly popular, simple demands to restore nationwide passenger rail and make local public transport free will reduce the cost of travel and bring transport emissions down.”
