We need a “Just Transition from Fuels”.
The current fuel crisis has highlighted this. Those who have been able to buy electric cars and have solar panels on the roof are less vulnerable to these energy shocks.
New Zealand has a long, proud history of social welfare, and we think that the vast majority of people want a system that recognises that we all have different circumstances and opportunities and that we should support each other through difficult times.
We wanted to do something simple, something that could be of immediate and meaningful help to people who are struggling at the moment, while at the same time helping to transition away from fossil fuels.

Climate Liberation Aotearoa/Whakatū decided on the simple idea of giving away bus cards with a small amount of credit loaded on them. We have initially provided twenty cards each with $10 credit on them to Victory Community Centre, who are distributing them to those that can most benefit.
We’d like to expand this and provide bus cards to more organisations as well as continue to provide cards, and additional credit to put on existing cards, to Victory Community Centre.
